Critics have established that the author of the portrait of grand duke Vladimir Aleksandrovich, presently exposed in the Peter and Paul Fortress (Petersburg), is Ivan Kramskoi. The portrait of the third son of Alexander II arrived in the History of Leningrad State Museum from the Hermitage Museum in 1969. The authorship and date of its creation were unknown. Researchers, having studied the archives, established that Kramskoi painted the portrait of the grand duke in October, 1885 by order of Alexander Polovtsev - the stats-secretary of Alexander III. Now the portrait is displayed as part of the exposition "History of St. Petersburg - Petrograd. 1830-1918" in the Commandant's House of the Peter and Paul Fortress. Source : russia-ic.com |
