 History of golf in Russia
The idea of creation an international class golf field in Russia has arisen when American businessman Armand Hammer has been invited.
The purpose of his visit was to define... what is necessary to make Russia to involve the western business here? It turned out that we need limousines and golf! Under control of Ivan Ivanovich Sergeev, head of GlavUpDk, has begun and was realized construction of the first and unique golf field 18 hole field.
The first open Russian golf tournament " Russian open" has been lead in 1993 on the first 9 hole field and since then Le Meridien Moscow Country Club became a constant place of passing this competition. Since 1996 this tournament has entered European ×åëëåíæ tour of professional Golf Association (ÏÃÀ). Players from 24 countries struggled for prize-winning fund 100,000 $. Tournament was won by an Englishman Charles Vatts, and Alexander Strunkin from Moscow Country Club, who became the first professional Russia golf player.
In 1997 the club grew up to an international championship level when it once again became the owner of European Challenged Round ÏÃÀ and tournament " Ñîâåðåí Russian open " with the largest prize-winning fund- 140,000 $. In 1998 " Russian open" has gathered together professionals of a high class and again became a tournament with the highest prize-winning fund. In 1999-2002 the club has united efforts on carrying out a tournament with a concern of BMW which participation has lifted professionalism and prestige of this competition on a very high level.

ÕVII Russian National Championship for golf 2008 will be held in July, 16-20, in golf - and yacht-club "Pestovo". The golf field is situated on the bank of Pestovskoe storage pond.
Russian Golg Association, Physical Training Federal Agency are Championship's organizers. In the main tournament 100 golfists from 5 Russian regions will participate for the rank of champion of Russia.
